Visitor numbers to Kenya had fallen by nearly two thirds since last year,
according to some tour operators.
Mr Dyer said: “The security measures now in place have been supported and
implemented by the whole community here, from local fishermen, to hoteliers
and the local police force and navy, ensuring this is a safe destination for
everyone.”
The original warning was put in place after several attacks occurred in the
area last year.
In October a disabled Frenchwoman was kidnapped by an armed gang.
That followed the death of a British man, David Tebbutt, who was shot at a
resort in Kiwayu, 30 miles north of Lamu, in September. His wife, Judith,
was abducted and held hostage in Somalia until her release in March earlier
this year.
