French president humiliates UK PM

Hollande has invited Labour leader Ed Miliband for a working lunch on Tuesday to discuss youth unemployment in Europe.

That makes Miliband the first British politician to be invited to Elysee Palace after Hollande took the reins as French president.

Hollande’s move is believed to be a revenge from Cameron for his snubbing of the now French leader when he was on a campaigning visit to Britain earlier this year.

The upcoming meeting also raises questions whether the socialist French president is gearing up for wider cooperation with the leftists in Britain rather than Cameron’s Conservative-led government.

“There is a youth unemployment emergency across Europe. The economics of Cameron and [former French President Nicolas] Sarkozy have failed. We now need to work together, to have a coordinated plan for jobs and growth. We cannot allow the future of the European continent to sit idle because of the failure to deliver the jobs young people need,” a Labour source said.

The relations between Cameron and Hollande has remained cold after the PM snubbed the latter before his election victory over Sarkozy in May.

Cameron has said he will “roll out the red carpet” in Britain for French businessmen if Hollande scares them off by raising the tax on the wealthy.

Cameron and Hollande have already met on the sidelines of the G20 May summit in Washington and at Downing Street earlier this month.
