Fresh blasts hit northern Afghanistan

The explosions targeted a local market in the northern province of Baghlan.

Among those wounded were 12 children, seven security personnel, and two senior police officials.

Local officials say the second explosion came shortly after security forces had arrived at the scene of the first blast.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks

Earlier, Taliban militants claimed to have killed 14 US soldiers after one of their choppers was downed in Andar district of Ghazni Province on Sunday.

According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, at least 2943 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the Asian country in 2001.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led forces.
