Fresh clashes erupt in Indian Kashmir

According to witnesses, Indian police fired tear gas to disperse stone-throwing protesters who defied the curfew and took to the streets in the northern towns of Baramulla, Delina and Pattan on Saturday.

Locals also said security guards have been deployed in the northern parts of the region.

Indian officials have also imposed a new curfew in the region to avoid any possible unrest.

Violence broke out in Indian Kashmir on March 5 when a Kashmiri student identified as Tahir Ahmed Sofi was killed after Indian police opened fire on demonstrators condemning the mysterious death of a PhD student in the region.

On March 2, a 28-year-old student, identified as Mudasir Ahmed Malla, was found dead in his hostel room in the Indian city of Hyderabad. Indian officials claim the student took his own life due to depression, but Malla’s family says he was killed.
