Girlfriend pays tribute to skydive victim



THE girlfriend of an experienced skydiver who plunged to his death near Sydney says her heart is shattered.


Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of 27-year-old Tim Fitzsimmons following skydiving accident at Wilton, south west of Sydney on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesman says the accident occurred while Mr Fitzsimmons was performing a skydiving manoeuvre known as “swooping”.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was transferred to Liverpool Hospital with serious injuries to his chest and limbs.

He died shortly before midnight after 12 hours of surgery.

His girlfriend Leah Drake paid tribute to him on Facebook, describing him as “my soul mate, my best friend and lover”.

“My heart is shattered to a billion pieces, words cannot describe the pain …,” Ms Drake wrote on Wednesday.

“I will miss everything about you, your gorgeous face, your infectious laugh, your ability to make anyone smile and the way you loved your friends, family and me.”

Mr Fitzsimmons’ Facebook page shows numerous other parachuting adventures.

Police travelled to Sydney Skydivers centre on Wednesday to speak to witnesses and examine equipment and clothing.

Detectives from Camden Local Area Command will prepare a report for the coroner.
