Gold Coast man held after dog, man knifed

A man slapped a woman, killed her dog, and stabbed another man during an argument on the Gold Coast, police say.

A 42-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after the attack at Hope Island on Saturday morning.

Police say the man was arguing with the woman when he slapped her in the face before fatally stabbing her dog with a knife.

They say he then stabbed and seriously injured a 55-year-old man.

The victim is in a stable condition at the Gold Coast Hospital.

The 42-year-old has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm, going armed as to cause fear, assault occasioning bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place, animal cruelty and injuring animals.

He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
