Al-Laham’s assassination came a day after the head of the UN supervision mission described the situation in Syria as calm.
Praising Syrians for their hospitality, Major General Robert Mood said that the UN mission is trying to help the people in the country.
Earlier in the day, a huge crowd attended the funeral of a Christian woman killed in twin blasts in the capital on Thursday.
Thirty-year-old Dima Farah was on her way to work when the explosions took place.
Meanwhile, UN observers continue to monitor a ceasefire, which has officially been in effect for more than three weeks.
The ceasefire is part of a six-point peace plan presented by the UN-Arab League envoy, Kofi Annan in March.
The first group of UN observers arrived in Damascus on late April 15 in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2042, which had been approved on the previous day.
On April 21, the Security Council met and unanimously approved Resolution 2043, which ratified a proposal to send a mission of 300 observers to Syria.
