A RESCUE operation will begin on Monday morning to retrieve four bushwalkers who became lost on a bushwalk in the Macquarie Pass National Park in Lake Illawarra.
Three men, two aged 19 and one aged 20, and a 21-year-old female, became lost in the National Park trying to find their way out at 6.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
One of the men contacted police and gave their GPS co-ordinates via an iPhone.
Communication was obtained with the hikers and all four were in good health but they had no food or water and had limited clothing.
Police Rescue and POLAIR found the hikers, but the land rescue crew were unable to gain access to the walkers due to rough and dangerous terrain.
Due to inclement weather, POLAIR was unable to access the walkers and returned to base. A rescue operation will commence at 7am involving NSW Police Rescue, Ambulance SCAT, POLAIR, SES and National Parks and Wildlife officers.
The command post will be set up at the base of Macquarie Pass.
