Hollywood stars join Queen for Oz party

Hollywood actors and top models were among more than 350 Australians received by the Queen at Buckingham Palace ahead of next week’s tour Down Under.

‘They love her, yeah they love her there,’ actor Hugh Jackman told Sky News.

‘The only problem I can see is that she’s can’t make every city so some are a little ‘bumbed’, if you know what I mean’ added the X-Men star.

Asked if the Queen’s tour might not go down with Australia’s anti-monarchists, Elle MacPherson said: ‘Deep down we are monarchists in Oz.’

‘I know she’s not well, yet she’s making the trip. I think it’s cool, it’s great for us and great for her,’ said MacPherson, who presents Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model.

The drinks reception went ahead despite the Queen cancelling an earlier engagement due to a mild cold.

Her tour Down Under begins next week with a visit to the capital Canberra and culminates in Perth 10 days later.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have toured Australia 15 times before – this visit will be no less colourful.

But with younger members of the royal family taking over some of the Queen’s long-distance duties, will this be her last visit to Australia?

‘I don’t think it’ll be the last one, I really don’t’ said celebrity chef Bill Granger.

‘They are such an extraordinary couple. They are so vibrant and fit, so no, they’ll go back I’m sure’ he added.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood agreed: ‘It’s amazing that they are making the mammoth 24-hour trip – but I suppose it’s better than a six-month boat trip.’
