House falls on man in Melbourne

A 19-year-old man has been described as “incredibly lucky” after he survived being trapped for 45 minutes when a section of the Melbourne home he was helping move collapsed on top of him.

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade told ninemsn the weatherboard house in Princeton Road, Mount Waverley, was being relocated when a section slipped off the back of a truck at around 2.15pm.

“He was pinned underneath the house but the way it fell distributed the weight and it looks like he’s going to be okay,” the spokesman said.

He said the MFB worked with volunteers from the SES to stabilise the section of the house before they attempted to lift it from the stricken tradie.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman told The Age the man was “incredibly lucky” not to have suffered any broken bones or serious injuries.
