Iran Hatami presents Cannes top prize

Hatami who is fluent in French appeared on the stage at the closing Ceremony during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival to dedicate this year’s Grand Prix to the Italian director Matteo Garrone for his movie Reality.

Leading actress of the Academy Award winning movie A Separation, Hatami, also attended the ‘Mud’ Premiere during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals.

The Cannes 2012 jury, headed by Nanni Moretti, awarded the Palme d’Or to Austrian director Michael Haneke’s Love (Amour). Haneke joined an elite group of two-time winners at one of the world’s biggest film festival after his The White Ribbon won in 2009.

The 2012 Best Director Award went to Carlos Reygadas for Post Tenebras Lux, while the Best Screenplay was dedicated to writer and director Cristian Mungiu for Beyond The Hills.

The 65th Cannes’s jury prize was presented to Ken Loach’s The Angels’ Share.

This year’s Best actress was shared by Beyond The Hills co-stars Cosmina Stratan and Christina Flutor.

Mads Mikkelsen was also named the Best Actor for his lead performance in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt.

The 65th Cannes Annual International Film Festival which kicked off on May 16 came to an end during a closing ceremony on May 27, 2012.
