Iran urges boost of Tunisia trade ties

Following the concluding session of the 11th Joint Iran-Tunisia Cooperation Commission held at the Export Promotion Center in the Tunisian capital of Tunis on Thursday, Mehdi Ghazanfari expressed optimism that the bilateral trade will reach the $500 million mark in the first phase of transactions and would climb to a billion dollars in the next phase.

On the third and last day of his official visit to Tunisia, the Iranian minister also met with Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali and discussed ways to further expand cooperation between Tunis and Tehran.

Ghazanfari, accompanied by members of his delegation, later signed eight cooperation agreements with Tunisian officials in various sectors at Tunis’ Export Promotion Center during the closing ceremony of the joint commission, reiterating Iran’s desire to boost trade with Tunisia with no limits.

The formal visit of the Iranian minister and his delegation was not only welcomed by authorities in Tunis, but also by the Tunisian Youth, who have been following the activities of the 11th Joint Commission.

Meanwhile, Tunisia’s Minister of Commerce and Handicrafts Bashir Zaafouri has emphasized that officials of both countries share the same vision of cooperation between their people and respective governments.

The Iranian minister and his delegation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and 15 documents in the fields of industry, energy, health, education, trade, science, culture and media. Officials of the countries have also signed an agreement to promote cooperation between Tehran and the Tunisian ministry of women.

Moreover, Tunisia’s Minister of Women Sihem Badi has described Iran as an alternative country with which Tunisia should collaborate, since both countries are linked not merely by cooperation pacts, but by common values.
