Israeli court extends detention of jailed teen, mother

An Israeli court extended on Monday detention of 16-year-old Palestinian girl Ahed al-Tamimi and her mother, Nariman for another two days.

Israeli occupation forces abducted Ahed from her home home in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh on Tuesday at dawn.

Ahed’s mother was arrested shortly afterward when she visited a detention centre east of Ramallah to check on her detained daughter.

“We were told by our lawyer that the military court in Ofer Prison had extended the detention period for both Ahed and Nariman until Thursday,” Bassem al-Tamimi, Nariman’s husband said.

On his Facebook page, the father wrote: “[Israeli] forces raided my home and arrested my daughter following the Israeli media’s attack against her. They stole our phones, cameras and laptops and beat my wife and children.”

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday that the Palestinian teenager would not be the only one to bear the consequences of slapping an Israeli soldier, who raided her house, on his face.

“Everyone around her, not only the girl, but also her relatives will not escape what they deserve,” Lieberman said at a meeting with the leaders of the Jewish settlers near the border with the Gaza Strip.

Naftali Bennet, Israeli education minister, said that Al-Tamimi “must” spend all her life in prison.
