Israeli Foreign Minister likely to meet Gulf figure in Paris: Report

Avigdor Lieberman

Avigdor LiebermanIsraeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has embarked on an undisclosed visit to Paris, where he is likely to meet a Gulf figure, Israel’s daily Maariv reported on Friday.

“It is likely that Lieberman has headed to Paris to meet a certain Gulf figure for talks on resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” a diplomatic source was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

The report also said that Lieberman had been staying at a luxurious hotel in the French capital which is a popular choice of accommodation among Gulf politicians.

No official account of a meeting between Lieberman and the Gulf figure in Paris has been announced thus far.

Lieberman, who has recently criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “rigid” foreign policy, said earlier this month that he has proposed a plan for managing relations with Arab countries, Palestinians as well as Israeli Arabs in line with a new bill aiming to declare Israel a “Jewish state.”

Strongly criticised by Palestinians, the plan involves “territorial and population exchanges” with the Palestinian Authority as well as a policy of “providing economic incentives” for Israeli Arabs to leave Israel and move to a future Palestinian state.
