THE mother of murdered Dawesville teenager Jessie Cate has been rocked by the death of her ex-husband following a fight at a local caravan park

The father of murdered teenager Jessie Cate has died after a caravan park fight – rocking the family for the second time in six months.

Paul Cate, 46, died in Fremantle Hospital on Thursday night after an altercation at the Dawesville Caravan Park about 8.30pm.

Mr Cate, who lived at the park, was rushed to Fremantle Hospital by St John Ambulance but died a short time later.

Mandurah Detectives and Major Crime Squad today charged 41-year-old Dawesville man Timothy Skipper with grievous bodily harm over Mr Cate’s death.

It is not known what sparked the fight between the men.

A shocked and distressed Judy Cate said the death of her ex-husband had come as a tragic “double blow” to the family, still reeling from Jessie’s murder in December.

Mrs Cate told PerthNow today she was married to Paul Cate, “for 15 or 16 years” before they separated three and a half years ago.

She had not had any contact with him for many months but believed he moved into the caravan park about November last year.

Mrs Cate said Mr Cate “had become reclusive” and had not had any contact with his daughters for at least eight months.

“On Friday morning I get the phone call that my ex-husband has died. It is just a double blow,” she said.

“This as well, you’ve got to be kidding me.”

Mrs Cate said her remaining daughters had mixed emotions about their father’s death, having not seen him for at least eight months.

“He just became reclusive,” she said.

Mrs Cate said her ex-husband didn’t even make contact with the family after Jessie’s December murder.

“I’ve got to get my head wrapped around it, it’s still shocking,” she said.

Mrs Cate said she was totally numb, having dealt with Jessie’s death, the guilty plea on Wednesday by her murderer and now her ex-husband’s death.

She was trying to remain strong for her daughters.

“I put the kids first, I have to be strong for them,” she said.

Mr Cate’s death came just a day after his daughter Jessie’s killer, Pinjarra man Kyle Rohan Garth, 20, pleaded guilty to murdering the Dawesville teenager.
