Jewish settlers raise Israeli flags on Ibrahimi Mosque

Israeli occupation settlers planted dozens of Israeli flags on Al-Ibrahimi Mosque the occupied West Bank city of Al-Khalil.

The activity was part of the Israeli celebration of what they call ‘Independence Day,’ which coincides the Palestinian Nakba, when some 750,000 Palestinians expelled from their lands and several thousands were massacred in 1948.

Sheikh Hifthi Abu Sneineh, the director of the Mosque said that the Israeli settlers planted the Israeli flags over the Mosque “as an attempt to take it over and turn it into a synagogue.”

He continued: “As usual, the Israeli settlers attempt to extend their control during the Jewish holidays, but we will continue to expose their practices and violations conducted against this Islamic Mosque that belongs to all Muslims around the world.”

Abu Sneineh noted that the Israeli occupation forces had banned the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, inside Al-Ibrahimi Mosque 66 times during April.

The Sheikh called for all who are able to increase their visitation to the Mosque “to stop Israeli settlers’ violations and aggression.”

In 1994, an extremist Israeli Jewish settler called Baruch Goldstein, who was born in America, opened fire on and killed 29 Palestinians during Al-Fajr Prayer in the holy month of Ramadhan.
