Journalist’s further detention challenged

The court questioned the 90-day extension of the detention period of Syed Mohammed Ahmad Kazmi, who was arrested on March 6 and has been held under judicial custody ever since, IRNA reported on Saturday.

Kazmi was detained on ambiguous charges of being involved in a bombing attack against an Israeli embassy car in the capital New Delhi on Feb 13.

He has vehemently rejected all the allegations.

The court’s move comes after the Indian journalist challenged the order of a Delhi magistrate granting the police three more months to complete their probe into the incident, during which he is supposed to remain under custody.

According to Kazmi’s legal counsel Mehmood Pracha, the order for the prolongation of the probe had been issued without a hearing being held for Kazmi first

An investigation by the civil court has found that none of the judges involved in his case has signed the order for the extension of the journalist’s detention.
