Afghan President, Hamid Karzai left for Maldives to attend the 17th Sought Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), his office said on Wednesday.

said that leading a high ranking official delegation, Karzai left for Maldives and would address the summit on Thursday discussing the Afghan government perspective on expansion of cooperation in the area of political, economic, cultural and social affairs with the member participants as well as would talk on expansion of security among the south Asian countries.
At the threshold of the summit, Karzai would meet with his Maldivian counterpart, Mohammad Nasheed and many other leaders and authorities discussing expansion of cooperation within the framework of SAARC, the statement said.
The SAARC organization which had been established in 1985 aimed to bring tranquility for more than one billion people living under the Sought Asian countries control.
Afghanistan is the 8th member of the organization that enjoyed membership in 2007, while the seven member countries are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal.
Iran, China, Japan, Sought Korea, Myanmar, Australia, Moriches, US and European Union are acting as the monitoring members for the organization.
