Lebanese mufti urges pilgrims’ release

Qabbani said on Saturday that there has been no information about the pilgrims, Lebanese news portal Naharnet reported.

After a meeting with the families of the abductees, the mufti voiced his support for their demands, saying he would not abandon his efforts towards their freedom until they are released.

On May 22, armed groups kidnapped the pilgrims in the northern Syria province of Aleppo, while they were returning to Lebanon from pilgrimage in Iran.

The bus carrying the abductees came under attack on the Syrian-Turkish border by gunmen who took the men away and released the women among them.

Earlier this month, Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah also urged the release of the pilgrims and held the Lebanese government accountable for the safety of the abductees.
