Lobby group to tackle Qld govt gay stance

A new lobby group will be created in Queensland to protest against the state government’s attitude towards gays and lesbians.

The Queenslanders for Equality group will launch its campaign at New Farm Park in Brisbane on Sunday.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, gay rights advocates, psychologists, lawyers and priests are expected to attend the launch.

A spokesman for the new group says it will campaign in particular to maintain current surrogacy laws.

The new Liberal National Party (LNP) government has come under fire for announcing it would ban gay couples, singles and new de facto couples from having children through altruistic surrogacy.

It has also been criticised for watering down civil unions, instead renaming them “registered relationships”.
