FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda Leaders in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, located to the north of Scotland, will meet in Shetland next Monday to discuss the matter and decide whether they should demand full autonomy.
Malcolm Bell, the convener of Shetland Islands council, said Scotland’s bid for holding an independence referendum has encouraged them to seek their own independence from both Britain and Scotland.
“There’s no point in Westminster devolving powers to Edinburgh if they are going to stop in Edinburgh. When you’re 300 miles from Edinburgh, or 700 from London, at those kind of distances, Edinburgh feels as remote as London,” he said.
The three islands would hold talks on following the example of the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, which are British Oversea Territories and largely independent from London, or follow the example of the Faroe Islands’ full self-rule from Denmark in 1948.
The move is partly triggered by concerns in the three islands that the 2014 referendum — whether it gives full independence to Scotland or not – will increase Edinburgh’s power that could lead to the islands losing their local governments.
“For me, this is about home rule; our islands being able to assert their natural and local identity, their distinctiveness, and get the powers and responsibilities they need to make the best of the modern world,” Tavish Scott, Member of Scottish Parliament told The Guardian.
Scott has been pushing for self-rule of the three islands since 2012 but the three leaders say they want a political settlement rather than leading a campaign for independence.
The three islands have a combined population of 69,000 people and are now at the center of a key multi-billion-pound wind farm project while having access to North Sea oil reserves in their vicinity.
