A police stand-off at Mackay in north Queensland has ended without incident.

A man locked himself in the office of a transport business at an industrial estate in Paget this morning and allegedly made threats to blow up gas cylinders.

Police say he surrendered to negotiators this afternoon and has been taken into custody.

Hundreds of workers were evacuated from buildings in the estate and an exclusion zone was set up around the Central Park Drive address.

Specialist police negotiators spoke with the man for several hours.

It is believed he is a disgruntled former employee.
