The 20-year-old man accused of bashing a 73-year-old Camillo man with a baseball bat on Sunday night boasted about his crime on Facebook, a court has heard.

The elderly pensioner, known only as Wally, suffered numerous broken bones including a fractured back and two broken arms. He has since undergone surgery in Fremantle Hospital.

Robert Geoff Collard, of South Lake, faced the Armadale Magistrates Court today charged with unlawful wounding and intent to cause bodily harm.

He appeared without legal counsel and attempted to secure bail but was knocked back by Magistrate Elizabeth Langdon.

He was advised to seek legal advice before applying for bail again and was remanded in custody to face court again tomorrow.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Shaun Bailey reportedly told the court police had a strong case against Mr Collard because of the comments he posted on Facebook.

Sergeant Bailey said police also had six witnesses to the alleged crime and a baseball bat belonging to Mr Collard, which police believed was used in the attack.

Mr Collard’s claims are still live on his public Facebook page.

About midnight, in a conversation with a friend the same night of the attack, he wrote: “yer and puched (sic) into myself and looped out and went down the road and flogged sum c..t wid (sic) a baseball bat like a madc..t.”

According to police Wally had been trying to locate the owner of a stray dog when he was approached by a group about 10pm on Sunday night when one of the group attacked him with a bat.

He made an emotional plea from his hospital bed on Tuesday, calling for help to catch his attacker. Police released an identikit image of a person of interest later that day.

Mr Collard was arrested overnight.
