Police investigations are continuing into the background of a man charged over a sex attack on a 16 year-old girl in Margaret River.

It is alleged Tony Young, 40, followed the girl on a beach track near Prevelly Park yesterday before placing a sleeping bag cover over her head and trying to abduct her.

Detective Sergeant Darren Clifton says Mr Young was apprehended after local residents heard the girl’s screaming and came to her aid.

“Margaret River police coordinated a search of the area and the accused was located several hours later hiding in nearby bushland,” he said.

“He was taken into custody and subsequently interviewed by detectives and it will be alleged that he intended to sexually assault the 16 year-old victim.”

Mr Young, who is from Dalyellup near Bunbury, has also been charged with filming an 18 year-old woman without her knowledge while she was having a shower at a home last night in Margaret River.

Mr Young is due to appear in court on both charges in Bunbury this afternoon.
