A small contingent of U.S. troops is providing targeting data for Yemeni airstrikes as government forces battle to dislodge Al Qaeda militants and other insurgents in the country’s restive south, U.S. and Yemeni officials said … [Obama] authorized a small team of special operations trainers to help Yemeni forces take on Al Qaeda [last year]. Those trainers were withdrawn … but apparently began to filter back early this year. – Los Angeles Times (5/16/2012)

US shadow war in Horn of Africa revealed by blogger … In a series of blog posts over the two weeks since 11 May, Cenciotti has described in unprecedented detail the powerful aerial force helping wage Washington’s hush-hush campaign of air strikes, naval bombardments and commando raids along the western edge of the Indian Ocean, including terror hot spots Yemen and Somalia. –Wired (5/16/12)

Obama’s new free speech threat …The U.S. Government will now punish anyone who is determined — in the sole discretion of the U.S. Government — even to “indirectly” obstruct the full transition of power to [Yemen] President Hadi. But what if someone — a Yemeni or an American — opposes Hadi’s rule and wants to agitate for a real election in which more than one candidate runs? Is that pure political advocacy, as it appears, now prohibited by the U.S. Government? – Salon (5/16/2012)

US in Yet Another Illegal War … in Yemen … How many wars are too many? Unnoticed largely in the press of larger events and obviously downplayed by the controlled Western media, the US and its allies are pursuing yet ANOTHER aggressive, illegal war – this one in Yemen … Unconstitutional, secretive and expanding in scope and violence, it includes the massive, violent projection of US naval, air and Special Forces into parts of Yemen. – Daily Bell (9/26/2011)

There is a huge, undeclared and under-reported war going on in the Middle East. Call it a Modern Crusade. Only it is not being fought to control Jerusalem but to run the world.

It is fashionable to analyze these conflicts as resource based – initiated by the corporate greed of the military-industrial complex that seeks the Long War – or even cultural conflicts between East and West.

All this may be true. But step back and a larger, malevolent pattern of world-control may be glimpsed.

  • A d v e r t i s e m e n t

The stakes: the world itself. The players are the handful of global elites that want to run it.

While the mainstream Western media focuses nowadays on Iran, US warplanes, allies and surrogates are busy bombing and shooting “terrorists” (and civilians) from Somalia to Yemen to Libya to Syria to Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The escalation has happened gradually. People in the West and especially America are not aware of its scope. But it is seemingly the penultimate war for global government, for a “new world order.”

Using a kind of hammer-and-anvil strategy, the US is smashing away at the tribal peoples of the Middle East with the goal of Westernizing them – and their economies.

The hammer is brute force that has already killed or injured millions. The Anvil is the mythos of the War on Terror and the necessity for Westernization of the Middle East and African tribal societies.

The first shots of this 21st century Crusade were perhaps fired during the invasions in Afghanistan and Iraq. At the same time the US and its allies began to fine-tune what is now a kind of surrogate Western Gulag stretching throughout the Middle East and Africa.

Tens of thousands of innocent young men have been imprisoned in newly constructed or converted prisons in Somalia, Yemen and of course in the countries that make up the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates. (Jordan and Morocco, pending).

The second phase of the war has been shockingly expansive. Regime change has been focused on a variety of secular countries in order to turn them, apparently, into controlled Islamic-oriented entities run by the CIA-affiliated Muslim Brotherhood.

The Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and (soon) Syria have all been attacked by Western surrogates including the seemingly phony “youth movement” and equally phony “liberation movements” that are mostly mercenary or made up of US surrogate troops from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc.

The reshaped map should eventually reveal a Middle East that opposes “secular” and “modern” regimes of the Gulf Cooperation Council with the “backward,” Islamic entities of Libya, Egypt, Syria, etc. This corresponds to the divide-and-conquer strategy that has been a favorite of elites throughout time.

The third phase of the war is probably one that the global elites didn’t expect to have to fight – or not for so long. The third phase includes countries where the US and NATO are unable (at least currently) to win control.

These regions include Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. Afghanistan has received most of the coverage, but the US and NATO have enlisted Kenya and Ethiopia to fight against the nativist Islamic movement in Southern Somalia.

In Yemen, the US and NATO are using the proxy forces of the Yemen “government” itself. In practice this has meant pitting the Northern tribes against the Southern ones. Saudi Arabian troops are also involved.

Add up the “theatre” and the true nature and size of this hidden war begins to become clear. It comprises the entire Middle East plus Libya, Somalia and Kenya. The entire Northern half of Africa is inflamed. Also Syria and, of course, Iran. The war in Iran is, perhaps, yet to come.

Then there is Afghanistan and Pakistan where the 21st century Western Crusade has not gone as planned. Two ancient tribes have been responsible for resistance to the West: The Afghan Pashtuns and the Pakistani Punjabis.

It is possible this latter-day Crusade is already lost. The resistance at the “navel of the world” has proven unexpectedly strong, much as it did 100 years ago, when the British were forced to retreat.

That unexpected resistance hasn’t stopped the fighting, however. War has engulfed a region perhaps twice the size of the US and inclusive of up to one billion people.

It is being fought surreptitiously and without substantive coverage. From a US constitutional point of view, it is entirely illegal. It has already poisoned, killed or maimed millions of tribal people, but it shows no signs of stopping. It is expanding illegally – most recently with the lamentable “Kony 2012” diversion.

No one in the US (or Europe) has voted for this neo-Crusade. No single public has endorsed it. No media (save the alternative one) covers it in anywhere near its entirety. But it warps whole societies and gives additional opportunities for the powers-that-be to drain even more freedoms from the West and America.

If this vast, new Crusade – now a decade old – is not to be terminated, at least let it be written about in its fullness. Before it can be stopped, it must be exposed.
