MoMA to buy Vaziri-Moqaddam works

MoMA officials have reportedly contacted the veteran artist to ask him provide them with a number of his new creations.

Vaziri-Moqaddam told ILNA that he was happy to help the world become familiar with Iranian art.

MoMA purchased one of the artist’s 1962 creations for its collection more than 40 years ago. The untitled painting was created with sand and synthetic polymer paint on canvas.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Midtown Manhattan, New York City is considered by some as the most influential museum of modern art in the world.

The museum’s collection offers an unparalleled overview of modern and contemporary art, including works of architecture and design, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, prints, illustrated books and artist’s books, film, and electronic media.

MoMA’s library and archives hold over 300,000 books, artist books, and periodicals, as well as individual files on more than 70,000 artists.

Its extraordinary art collection includes all-time classics by famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Salvador Dali.

Born in 1924 in Tehran, Vaziri-Moqaddam got a Diploma of Fine Arts Academy from the University of Tehran in 1946 and his Diploma of ‘Accademia di Belle Arti’ in Rome in 1958.

He returned to Tehran in 1964 and worked as a Professor of Art at the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran until 1974.

He now works and lives in Italy.

Vaziri-Moqaddam is considered a pioneer of modern Iranian painting and sculpture, whose works have been displayed in many countries including the UK, Brazil, Germany, Italy, the US and France.

The Italy-based artist has received numerous national and international awards, including a Certificate of Honor from the Italian Prime Minister, Antonio Segni.

Known for his abstract forms and designs, Vaziri-Moqaddam was also selected as Europe’s Artist of the Year in 2005 and won the 2006 Personaggio Europeo Prize of the City of Rome.
