Mowbray students start at new school

Former VCE students and teachers from Mowbray College, which was shut down owing more than $18 million, will start a new stage of their school life when they walk through the gates of the Catholic Regional College (CRC) in Sydenham on Monday.

The 161 VCE students from Mowbray, in Melbourne’s west, will receive a colourful welcome to their new school where they will complete their secondary education.

They will be joined by eight teachers from Mowbray.

CRC Sydenham principal Brendan Watson says his students have planned a warm welcome for their new schoolmates.

“The student leadership group recognises that they have gone through a stressful few weeks and wants them to feel immediately at home,” Mr Watson said.

He said the welcome ceremony, which will include the Mowbray College flag being hoisted, will be a significant milestone as the second semester begins for the VCE students.

Mr Watson said with only 14 teaching weeks left until Year 12 students finish their classes, the planned welcome and transition will be critical in order for the new students to settle into their new environment.
