The latest Newspoll indicates that the federal budget was a winner with voters, senior government minister Simon Crean says.
“I think it shows that people have liked the budget,” he told reporters in Sydney.
Labor’s primary vote rose three percentage points to 30 per cent in the latest Newspoll while the coalition’s vote fell six points to 45 per cent.
After preferences, the coalition leads Labor 55-45 on the two-party preferred vote.
Mr Crean said people were beginning to understand the government’s efforts to deliver a surplus.
“Obviously I think that people have generally perceived the budget to be a good budget,” he said.
Mr Crean said he would like to see support for Labor continue to climb.
“Newspoll’s another news poll. This one went up, but it’s not up enough,” he said.
