‘No truth in West hype against Iran’

Iran is opposed to the construction or possession of nuclear weapons and all the Iranian nation wants is its rights as stipulated by the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations, head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.

“We believe that the world should move toward becoming free of nuclear weapons, since even a single nuclear bomb is a threat to global peace,” he said.

Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with visiting former French Socialist Prime Minister Michel Rocard in Tehran on Sunday.

“The Islamic Republic has always been ready to expand its ties with the West based on mutual interests and respect.”

The US and some of its Western allies allege that Iran’s nuclear energy program may have a military aspect, using this pretext to impose financial and oil sanctions against the country.

Tehran refutes the allegations, noting that frequent inspections by the IAEA have yielded no evidence of any diversion in Iran’s nuclear energy program toward military ends.
