NSW govt to cut 750 RailCorp jobs

Thousands of RailCorp jobs are expected to be cut as the NSW government begins an overhaul of Sydney’s rail network.

Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian is expected to announce the axing of 20 per cent of the rail system’s middle management, or 750 jobs, on Tuesday.

The jobs are expected to be cut through voluntary redundancies.

The Daily Telegraph reports that job losses are the precursor to much bigger cuts.

A recent Booz consultancy report into RailCorp recommended 3000 to 4500 of RailCorp’s 15,000 jobs be slashed, the paper reported.

The government is also putting RailCorp’s cleaning services under new management.

Under the government’s new changes, RailCorp will be broken up into two organisations – Sydney Trains and NSW Trains.
