Tasmania’s Health Minister Michelle O’Byrne says the relationship with her Federal counterpart is on solid ground despite their disagreement over elective surgery cuts.

On Friday, the Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon described the Tasmanian Government’s plans to cut 60 million dollars from the elective surgery budget as short sighted.

Ms O’Byrne denies the comments have damaged their relationship.

“Nicola and I have known each other for many years and I’m sure we’ll move through this one,” she said.

The Australian Greens have also criticised the government, saying the its priorities are all wrong.

“I think when you see $1 million being put into taking logs up the Midland Highway to sell to China and the money’s not available for health services you have to think Nicola Roxon’s obviously been stirred into some action,” Greens Leader, Bob Brown said.

The Tasmanian Greens leader, Nick McKim, has called on Ms Roxon to take a less critical approach.

“Ms Roxon as Federal Health Minister has a responsibility not just to snipe from the sidelines but set up and play a constructive role,” he said.

The Opposition says it has already identified alternative savings, the Premier just needs to adopt them.
