An 83-year-old man has been bashed unconscious and his rare coin collection stolen in north western NSW.
The victim was struck on the head after he’d parked his car at Barwon Street, in Brewarrina, and walked to his front door around 9.30pm (AEST) on Friday.
When he regained consciousness almost two hours later, he found his safe had been stolen.
It contained a unique collection of 19th and 20th century German and English coins.
Jewellery, stamps, and cash were also kept in the safe.
The man told police the offenders, possibly three or four males, asked for money and food.
He was taken to Brewarrina Hospital with minor injuries, but also suffering psychological trauma.
