Oregon CopBlocker Pulled Over for Pointing and Laughing at State Trooper

Josh Hickman, who lives in North Bend and is part of Oregon CopBlock, was recently pulled over after helping his son. According to Hickman the stop had nothing to do with the seatbelt Trooper Evans states as the reason for the stop. Instead Hickman believes he was targeted for not only pointing and laughing as he drove by Evans but also for his work with Oregon CopBlock.

Hickman has taken on a very bold project where he hopes to use facial recognition software to create a database of ALL Oregon State Troopers. The idea came to Hickman after Oregon State police (who were working with the FBI) shot and killed LaVoy Finicum, one of the ranchers who had occupied National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. The officers responsible for killing Finicum have yet to be identified by authorities. This despite members from this ‘elite team’ being under investigation for failing to disclose that they had also discharged their weapons during the shooting.

While the possible murder of another person doesn’t seem to bother Evans in the slightest he does write Hickman two tickets for his seatbelt. A seatbelt infraction is a victimless crime because if you don’t wear a seatbelt the only person you could hurt is YOU. Yet, the state believes that if they ‘punish’ you (or extort you, because that’s what it is, extortion) that you’ll learn to wear your seatbelt. Of course this isn’t true on either front. I’ve been ticketed for not wearing a seat belt and I still don’t. Also, the state (or any random cop) could care less if you wear your seatbelt too. The only reason the state has made NOT wearing a seatbelt illegal is to generate money. The only reason cops stop people for it is that they hope they can make additional arrest after the fact. Rarely are you ever actually stopped for simply not wearing your seatbelt. Sure, some might have had that happen but the officer was hoping for a DUI, suspended license or some other offense as well.

The stop concludes, after Evans attempts to look good by giving a ‘warning’ for not carrying his papers (ID), with Hickman asking a question about Finicum’s murder again. While Hickman answered all of Evans’s questions he failed to even respond to his simple inquiry. Evans could have just said, “I’m just a patrol trooper” or “no comment.” Instead he pushes the question to the side and continues with his extortion.

While we all know that Evans is too low of a cop to even know who’s on the ‘elite team’ that killed Finicum I still think there’s value in questioning other officers about ‘bad’ officers. At some point current LEOs are going to have to choose between their bad brothers and doing what’s right. Of course most ‘good cops’ end up quitting and doing something more valuable to the community. If that’s the case for Evans than I hope it puts that “I quit” slip in soon. Otherwise he might find himself in a similar position his Trooper buddies were in…. one that lead them to commit murder for the state.

Hopefully that doesn’t happen but if it does, know that Hickman and Oregon CopBlock will be there too!
