Patient charged over gun in prosthetic leg

AN Australian man recovering in the hospital after having his second leg amputation has been charged for hiding a loaded gun in his prosthetic limb.

Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital went into lockdown yesterday afternoon after a doctor discovered the 66-year-old patient was armed.

He and his 18-year-old son were charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and ammunition, and the son’s girlfriend, 23, was charged with possessing ammunition, NSW Police said today.

The son and his girlfriend were in the room with the man when the doctor made his discovery.

The gun was hidden under a stocking in the man’s prosthetic leg.

The three will each face court on different dates in November and December.
