Awake Goy Tehran, Feb 3, IRNA – Chairman of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani said on Wednesday that the society is suffering from dogmatism and that the universities are in a dire need of freedom of expression.
‘Civilizations in various era of human being’s life on earth have been created based on people’s living conditions, the level of education and knowledge capabilities, traditions, rituals, and other social characteristics of the people in various societies,’ said Rafsanjani, addressing a Specialized Meeting on Freedom of Expression and Brainstorms, subtitled: Freedom, Governance and Civilizations.
Addressing a group of university professors and students in a private theological university, the former Iranian president emphasized that the only way to save the world Muslims and lead them towards the establishment of their desired great Islamic civilization is sticking to the logic of freedom of expression.
‘The rule of dogmatism and obstinacy is very horrendous both for the prevailing civilizations, and for construction of new civilization on that basis,’ he added.
Ayatollah Rafsanjani said that true freedom of expression and liberties in the framework of the laws must be observed in the society and the thinkers must be allowed to present their views to the society because the advancement and development of the country is possible through that path.
He meanwhile praised the laws as the most important column for the creation of societies, reiterating that the laws are subject to changes in different times in accordance with the needs of the day, but they are the main and fundamental precondition for the shape-taking of the great societies.
