Police say the last transaction indicates the man was alive at 6:15pm.

Police are appealing for public assistance following a stabbing murder overnight.

Homicide squad detectives are trying to establish whether there is a business link to the murder of a post office operator at Deer Park, in Melbourne’s west.

The 48-year-old Meadow Heights man was found dead at the rear of the premises by his wife and two children at about 8:30pm (AEDT).

Police believe the man admitted his killer to the shop.

Local businessman Tuncel Irgat says the man’s daughter ran up and down the street asking for help after finding her father’s body. “His daughter just banged the door, she was crying, she was asking for help,” he said.

“The wife was saying they killed him.”

Detective Inspector John Potter says that a record of transaction confirms he was alive at 6:15pm.

His family was alerted at 7:30 when he did not switch on the security alarm.

“We believe the person responsible would have a substantial amount of blood on them,” he said.

“There was quite a bit of blood at the scene.”

The man owned the shop for two years and was robbed last month.
