President: Islamic Republic Day manifests democracy in Iran

Tehran, March 30, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani described Islamic Republic Day in Iran as manifestation of democracy and Islamic features in the country.

Every year, Iran marks Islamic Republic Day (Farvardin 12 in the solar calendar year, March 31 this year), which falls on March 31 this year .

37 years ago on this day a historic referendum was held in Iran in which Iranians overwhelmingly voted for the establishment of the Islamic Republic following the collapse of the Pahlavi regime in 1979.

At the cabinet session on Wednesday, President Rouhani said in modern Iran people easily attend elections to declare their opinions.

Rouhani further marked the birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh (SA) today, adding she is a good example for social and individual lives.

Hazrat Fatemeh (SA) was the daughter of the great Prophet Muhammad and wife of Imam Ali (the first Imam of Shia Muslims).

Her birth anniversary is designated as national Woman’s and Mother’s Day in Iran.

Ladies have heavy responsibilities, said the President, adding they are well capable of defending the country’s social and political interests.
