TCP : A delegation of Russian aviation experts will arrive in Egypt Sunday to inspect the newly implemented security measures at the country’s international airports of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, the Civil Aviation Ministry announced.
“In the framework of Egypt-Russian cooperation to ensure the security of airports, a delegation of experts from Russia will arrive in Egypt to hold meetings with civil aviation ministry officials, as well as to inspect security measures implemented at airports in Sharm el-Sheikh,” according to the statement.
Russia suspended its air traffic to Egyptian airports one week after the Oct. 31 crash of an A321 plane (on flight KGL9268) belonging to Russia’s air company Kogalymavia over the Sinai Peninsula; all 224 passengers onboard were killed.
The Egyptian Aviation Ministry declared that there was no evidence that the plane was brought down due to a terrorist act, however, Moscow has claimed that a bomb on board was the cause.
Egypt’s Public Prosecutor Ahmed Sadeq said on Thursday he had referred the case of the Russian airplane to State Security prosecutors to look into suspicions that criminal activity brought it down.
