FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda Hisham Jaber, director of the Middle East Studies Center in Beirut, said in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is “committed to pay… [and] provide weapons” for the terrorist Free Syrian Army.
“Saudi Arabia [has] invested and paid a lot of money since the beginning of the Syrian crisis” in March 2011, Jaber said.
On June 22, the UK newspaper Guardian reported that Saudi authorities will pay the salaries of members of the terrorist Free Syrian Army to encourage “mass defections from the military and… pressure” the Syrian government.
On February 24, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said during a meeting of the so-called “Friends of Syria” group in Tunisia that supplying weapons to Syrian rebels is “an excellent idea.”
“Nobody can deny that Saudi Arabia did invest billions of dollars in Iraq and it did not get any significant results,” the political analyst pointed out.
“Now Saudi Arabia is trying in Syria to get what it lost in Iraq.”
Jaber made the comments a day after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued three new counter-terrorism laws.
On June 3, President Assad said Syria is “facing a war from abroad,” and that attempts are being made to “weaken Syria, [and] breach its sovereignty.”
