Scotland Yard helps Paksitani poilce investigate Khalil Dale murder

However, he said the case may become another of Pakistan unsolved murders.

“I don’t think that we will be able to apprehend them,” he told The
Daily Telegraph. “I am not optimistic but you never know when something
comes out of the blue, you have a lead and can then proceed.” Mr Dale,
60, was a convert to Islam and a warzone veteran, having worked in Iraq,
Afghanistan and Somalia.

He was running a health project in Quetta, where senior members of the Afghan
Taliban are believed to live.

Pakistan has a history of turning a blind eye to insurgents and questions have
already been asked about Islamabad’s commitment to finding his killers.

Days after the murder, Yousuf Raza Gilani, the prime minister, accused Mr Dale
of travelling on an expired visa – an allegation later retracted.

A spokesman for the British High Commission in Islamabad said Scotland Yard
officers travelled to Pakistan to help shortly after Mr Dale’s body was
recovered and that diplomatic staff were liaising with the government.

“We and the Government of Pakistan will do everything in our power to
bring those responsible for Khalil Dale’s murder to justice,” he said.

“The British High Commission in Islamabad and the Metropolitan Police are
closely following the progress of the Pakistani investigation, which is
being carried out by the Baluchistan police, with support from Pakistan’s
federal agencies.”
