Settlers beat up elderly Palestinian in Jerusalem

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli occupation settlers beat on Thursday Zuhair abu-Khdeir, 63 years old, in the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem.

Zuhair, who lives in Jerusalem’s neighbourhood of Shu’fat, is the relative of the Palestinian boy Mohamed abu-Khdeir, who was kidnapped and savagely murdered by a group of Israeli settlers in 2014.

The old man was had his nose broken, a severe cut to the face and bruises to his eyes and head. He had 12 stitches over different places in his body.

Family sources said that Zuhair, who works at an Egged, Israeli transport company, bus parking lot, told them that he was savagely beaten se at least two extremist settlers.

According to his family, he is in a dazed state and has trouble describing what happened. His eyes are almost shut by the bruises.

The Israeli police phoned a family member about an hour after the assault, asking him to go to the station and file a complaint. However, the police did not launch any investigation.

One of the relative said that he could describe the car used by the assailants, but the Israeli police refused to take his account.

On Friday, Abu-Khdeir’s son wanted to file a complaint to the police, but it refused to take his complaint and said the old man would have to come to the police station himself.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that in the summer of 2014, two days before Mohamed was murdered, Shu’fat residents complained to the police that Jewish men had tried to abduct a 9-year-old boy in the neighbourhood.

The police did not take their complaint seriously enough, later enabling Mohamed’s abduction and murder.

Later on, it emerged that the three suspects in Abu-Khdeir’s murder had tried to kidnap the 9-year-old boy two days earlier.
