New South Wales police are investigating whether two shooting incidents in one night are linked after a house belonging to a member of the Ibrahim family was sprayed with bullets.

Police said they were not ruling anything out after homes in Ermington and Merrylands were shot at on Saturday night.

“We are looking at the possibility they are linked,” a police spokeswoman said.

In the first incident, a home on the corner of Holdsworth Street and Price Street in Merrylands, belonging to a member of the Ibrahim family was shot at about 8.45pm (AEDT).

A black four-wheel drive was seen leaving the area the shots were fired, but a man and woman inside the house at the time were not injured.

Police are doorknocking the suburb which has been the scene of a spate of shootings in recent months.

In the later incident, police were called to a house at Ermington about 12.05am (AEDT) on Sunday after the owner came home and discovered damage to the front of the house.

Police believe the damage to a wall and window was caused by bullets.

Neighbours told police they heard noises between 11pm and 11.30pm and the damage was discovered a short time later.

No-one was in the house at the time.
