A TENSE stand-off between Mackay police and a man who has barricaded himself into a local transport company’s offices is now approaching its sixth hour.
It is understood the man entered the Allied Pickfords premises about 8.10am before making threats to detonate gas cylinders.
Emergency services were called to the Central Park Dr address at 8.45am, shortly after workers arrived at the building.
Police said an exclusion zone had been set up and local business evacuated while negotiations with the man continue.
Milton Street, Archibald Street, Connors Road, Commercial Avenue, Boundary Road have been closed as part of the exclusion zone.
A police spokesman could not confirm reports the man was a former employee of the business nor whether he had made any demands.
Earlier, The Courier-Mail reported that Mackay police have cleared five streets in the suburb of Padget during negotiations with a man who has barricaded himself inside a local business.
