(Oct. 6 2011) – A number of parliamentarians express concern over Simin Barakzai’s health condition, saying she will lose her life if the government doesn’t pay attention.
Herat MP, Simin Barakzai is in hunger strike four five days, but neither the government nor the human rights organizations have paid attention to her health condition.
“Ms. Barakzai is now in a critical health condition and her blood pressure has seriously fallen down,” Badakhshan MP, Niloofar Ibrahimi told Rashidi Veterans to day reporter
She warned that Barakzai will lose her life if the government and the international community don’t pay attention to her condition.
“I ask the government and the election commission to review Ms. Barakzai’s electoral files and save her life,” she said.
Nazifa Zaki, an MP from Kabul supported Barakzai’s hunger strike and said: “Where are the human rights and women’s rights organizations to prevent a mother’s death.”
She accused the government and the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan for supporting the wrong decision of the elections commission which will result the death of a mother.
She says Barakzai refused to inject serum and she wants to show she is really in hunger strike.
Simin Barakza who is residing under a tent in the parliament compound says that she would continue her hunger strike till she gains her rights.
“I hope that the living consciences listen to my voice,” she said.

It is so sad.. She wants to be a leader, what is this? what she really want to prove? Government positions are not a game to cry for or beg for to achieve it. It is really a childish act. She encourages other women to suicide if they couldn’t get anything. It is really sad and It will be worst if Karzai even think to have her in Parliament. Such positions need a brave woman not someone who cry or stop eating if she couldn’t get what she expected.
Agreed, playing the victim card just doesn’t cut it.
