State of the Union speech 2012: Obama a lonely voice in a divided House

One floor down, Hillary Clinton led her cabinet colleagues to their feet as Mr
Obama described how “a wave of change has washed across the Middle East
and North Africa, from Tunis to Cairo; from Sana’a to Tripoli”.
America’s top diplomat showed unwavering loyalty to the man who derailed her
path to the presidency and smiled with relish as he told Republicans he
would “fight obstruction with action”.

But as Mr Obama’s reached the end of his 6,986 words it felt like few had
resonated and even fewer would be remembered. The man who once spoke so
clearly on behalf of a new type of politics failed to make himself heard. If
he is to survive a gruelling re-election campaign he will need to re-find
his voice.
