A student at Hudson Valley Community College near Albany New York was recently arrested for making a tweet about his backpack.  Police and school staff are claiming that the student “implied” that he had a bomb.  However, no mention of a bomb or any type of threat was posted to his twitter page.

The only thing that the student said was “You don’t know what’s in my backpack.“, apparently with a picture of his backpack attached.

It seems that now the word “backpack” is associated with terrorist activities and could lead to an arrest.

“The individual involved, a student, was immediately located and arrested,” said Fred Aliberti of the college’s public safety department. Public safety officials at HVCC have arrest powers.

“Even though we discovered that there was no actual bomb or immediate threat to safety, we took this threat very seriously,” Aliberti said.[1]

This is not the first time that something like this has happened, just months ago a family was questioned by the FBI after searching for backpacks and pressure cookers on Google.

Fear mongering about the dangers of backpacks has been commonplace in America following the Boston bombing.  Recently, Mark Dice found large numbers of students who were actually willing to sign a petition to ban backpacks.
