A street has been cordoned off and nearby houses and shops have lost power after an explosion in Sydney’s north.
Fire crews were called to the corner of Military Road and Cardinal Street in Mosman on Saturday afternoon, after reports of an explosion under a footpath.
A Fire And Rescue NSW spokesman said it was evident something had occurred under the path.
“At this stage it’s undetermined what it is, it could be a gas main that’s erupted,” he said.
Cardinal Street has been closed while emergency services investigate the cause of the explosion.
The incident has caused a power outage in the area.
There have been no reports of injuries.
