FRIENDS of Hayden Burnes – the teen boy who was stabbed to death in Minchinbury – gathered at the crime scene after school today.

A friend of the victim identified him as Hayden Burnes, 15.

They described Hayden as “someone who made the room fun” and an “awesome guy”.

“He was the nicest guy, I can’t believe this would happen to him,” one friend said.

When asked about Hayden’s bikie roots, friends nodded in agreement before deciding not to comment further.

“He always had a smile on his face…he was the happiest guy I knew,”  one said.

“We’ve been friends since primary school,” friend George Theocharous said.

“He was a fun, enjoyable guy who just finished his school certificate and opened up this mechanic workshop with his dad.

“He loved anything to do with motors.”

Strike Force Lemon Grove – formed by Mt Druitt Detectives with the assistance of State Crime Command’s Homicide and Gangs Squads – is investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

A canvass of surrounding businesses has been carried out in a bid to identify potential witnesses, while closed-circuit television (CCTV) images from the area will also be examined by investigators.

Mt Druitt Superintendent Wayne Cox described the killing as a “brutal” one.

“It appears the boy was stabbed a number of times in the chest,” Supt Cox said.

He refused to comment on whether the matter was bikie related.

“We have no intelligence that suggest that…the public should not be alarmed.”

The teenage boy was stabbed repeatedly today at the automotive workshop where he worked in Minchinbury.

Mt Druitt area commander Superintendent Wayne Cox described the attack at the industrial estate as a “horrific crime”.

He confirmed media reports that a car had pulled up to the Marieanne Place premises at 8.50am and sped off after the attack.

However, he said there was “no intelligence” to suggest the stabbing was bikie related.

Supt Cox dismissed media reports the teenager’s father was from the Lone Wolf bikie gang, along with other reports that the attacker was a member of that gang.

“There are a number of inquiries we’re making in relation to the matter, and we’re aware of the people who are involved in these matters,” he told reporters.

“There is no intelligence to suggest (the attack is part of a war between two bikie gangs) and I would suggest there is no stage for alarm at this time.”

Supt Cox said the boy’s family were “completely upset and distraught, and they have been to the scene”.

The teenager was taken to Nepean Hospital after the attack, but was later pronounced dead.

“He’s a 15-year-old boy who’s currently employed as an apprentice mechanic, and goes to one of the local schools in the area,” Supt Cox told reporters outside Mt Druitt police station.

“It is a horrific crime, there is no doubt about it. It is horrific to see a child like that being killed.

“What I’m urging for is any members of the public to come forward with any information that may be able to assist us in solving this crime.

“That would be a great asset to us to get that information.”

“The investigation at this stage is in its infancy … and there is a number of lines of inquiry that we’re undertaking,” he said.

Police did not have a suspect for the stabbing, he said.

Paramedics on scene transferred the boy to Nepean hospital via road ambulance but he died en route.

No one has been arrested by police at this time.

The incident occurred just metres away from the Rebels bikie gang clubhouse.

The distressed father of the teenage boy killed arrived at the scene earlier to talk to detectives.

Believed to be linked to the Lone Wolf bikie gang, he was comforted by others inside the crime scene as he looked at the site where his boy died.

Witnesses said people went running all over the industrial estate to get help.

“One guy ran in screaming ‘there’s blood everywhere’ and ‘call an ambulance’,” a witness from a nearby premises said.

“We saw a car drive up, drop this other guy off and do a u-turn. The guy did his job and then ran off, got into the car and left.

The offender was wearing a baseball cap to hide his face, witnesses said.

A NSW Police spokesman said it was believed the boy had some connection to someone at the industrial estate.

Police are also searching for the person involved in the stabbing, believed to be a man wearing a red hooded jumper.

It is understood the offender ran from the scene on foot.

The public has been warned not to approach the man if seen around Michinbury in case he is still armed but instead contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
