‘Terrorism can’t topple Syria government’

“The [global] hegemony and the West have concentrated all their efforts on toppling [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad, but they should know that such inhumane [terrorist] acts will fail to bring down the popular government of Syria and will only add to the Syrians’ hatred of them (the West),” Ebrahim Aqa-Mohammadi, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said Wednesday.

The Iranian lawmaker described the day’s attack in Syria as a Western scheme and said the terrorists sought to suggest that the Assad government has come to an end, but the plot was foiled by the resistance of the Syrian army and the people.
Syrian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Dawoud Rajiha, his deputy Assef Shawkat and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani were killed while National Security Bureau chief General Hisham Bikhtiyar and Interior Minister Major General Mohammad Ibrahim al-Sha’ar were wounded in a bombing that hit the headquarters of the Syrian National Security on Wednesday.

The so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorists have claimed responsibility for the attack, warning of more violence in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in the coming days.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of many people, including security forces.
