Francis Danby (1793-1861) was an Irish romantic painter, famous for his beautiful, fantastic and gloomy landscapes. He studied in Dublin, went to London briefly, but then moved onto Bristol, where he became part of the informal group of artists known as the Bristol School. He saw a good deal of success in his time and produced two sons who would also become landscape artists.
